Nurturing Spaciousness to Cultivate Clarity and Ease Everyday
At the beginning of this year, I set an intention: to create more intentional spaciousness in my calendar and in my being. I chose this intention because I recognized a persistent and deep yearning for more time and space to be still, to lower my frequency out of anxiety, to think deeply and feel from a place of groundedness, and to engage in more practices that allow me to feel well.
Spaciousness is more than just extra time or energy; it is a fundamental state of being that allows for more clarity, honesty, emotional openness, and inner peace. It is a quality of mind, body, and heart that allows us to approach life with more alignment, ease, and grace. When we embrace spaciousness, we create room for more creativity, reflection, and deep connection to ourselves, others, and the world around us.
Some Ways I’m Cultivating More Spaciousness
Mindful Breathing
Practicing some mindful breathing every day. Finding opportunities for deeper breaths, allowing myself to fully experience each inhale and exhale. Noticing the sensations of the breath as it moves through my body, inviting a sense of calm and presence to my mind and body as often as possible.
Making Small Adjustments
When I have one, two, or five minutes before my next task, rather than picking up my phone to check social media, read the news, or play a game on my phone, I’m choosing to drink some water or fill my water cup, stand up and stretch, take some deep breaths, or simply doing nothing instead. I’m notice how I feel when I choose something different, and I’m realizing that each time I choose something more nourishing the more comfortable it becomes.
Allowing Space in my Schedule
I’m prioritizing creating space in my schedule to check in with myself and allow myself the space to connect with myself, feel more fully, breathe more deeply, and think more deeply. I’m giving myself the opportunity to rest, reset, and rejuvenate as often as possible, even if it’s micro-moments of more peace and ease.
Writing Down Ruminating Thoughts
When I find myself thinking the same thought over and over, I write it down to get it out of my head. This creates more space and recaptures energy by releasing it from my mind. Sometimes, just writing it down is enough to recapture the energy from it, but if not, I continue reflecting and journaling around the thought until I have a deeper understanding around why it is continuing to circle in my mind, and how I might release it.
Simplifying
If there is something that can be simpler, I commit to the simplification. I’m working to simplify my surroundings, moving things to make it easier to access them, and releasing the thought that everything has to be complicated or hard. Clearing away unnecessary distractions or making my space more efficient is enhancing my ability to focus and concentrate.
Replacing Complaints with Gratitude
When I find yourself complaining, I’m seeking something I can be grateful for instead. Complaints are filled and fueled by downward energy, and when I can replace complaints with gratitude, I change my energy in the moment and move myself out of feeling like a victim. Gratitude opens the heart and expands my capacity to receive the gifts of the present moment with added humility and grace.
We live in a world that often values productivity over presence and distraction over alignment, and the practice of spaciousness offers an invitation to reclaim inner peace and well-being. By embracing spaciousness, there becomes more opportunities for growth, healing, and great care to unfold.
How might you invite more spaciousness into your calendar and being?
